Our values
Our values shape every decision, conversation, and design move.
They determine not only how we create architecture, but how we engage with people, places, and ideas.
Intellectual Integrity
Through research, critical reflection, and genuine inquiry, we interrogate assumptions, including our own, to reach ideas worth building.
Ideas over hierarchy
We operate in a meritocracy, where the best idea always wins; it’s about solutions, not seniority.
Generosity
We believe architecture should enrich lives for generations to come. We listen closely to realise the client’s vision, while measuring a project’s success by how generously it serves all its stakeholders.
Open Exchange
Our communication is clear, concise and compelling. We facilitate an open exchange of ideas, in which asking questions is encouraged.
Sustainability
We design in consideration of the earth’s finite resources, viewing materials through a whole-of-life-cycle lens.
Inclusivity
We support reconciliation, gender equality and non-discrimination and celebrate diversity. We recognise the impact of design on inclusion, and endeavour to create spaces that feel welcoming for all.

Origins of our name
From a young age, Steven recalls his maternal grandfather and father, a draftsman and a tradesman, huddled over a drawing board, working late into the night. The immigrants from The Netherlands and Italy respectively, courageously started a small enterprise, they called Genton, alongside their day jobs, buying a plot of land, designing and building houses. Witnessing them solve problems and make something lasting together made a deep impression on him. When he founded his own practice in 2010, he called it by the same name – Genton – to embody family, collaboration, hard work, invention and tenacity.
